Connected Diagnostics Brings the Brains to Cummins Inc.

February 20, 2015 by Elisabeth Greenbaum Kasson

Beginning April 1, diesel truck owners will have a reason to rejoice. Engine maker Cummins Inc. is introducing their on-board telematics suite, Connected Solutions, via its Connected Diagnostics application.

This app links the electronic brains of the company’s diesel engine to the vehicle’s integrated telematics system. The data collected can provide critical information about an engine-system fault in a short amount of time, allowing customers the ability to address issues before the driver, the truck, the mission, or the bottom line are affected.

According to John Malina, executive director of connectivity and data integration business for the engine OEM, another bonus of Connected Diagnostics is that it offers an immediate response and suggestions for repair from company experts.

With over 5,000 medium and heavy-duty trucks whose engines are successfully running the app, Cummins Inc. is planning to expand the service into more diesel-engine markets.
