Ford Motor Co. has announced detailed pricing for its 2019 Ranger pickup truck as it re-enters the mid-size market it abandoned after the 2011 model year. The pricing undercuts the market-leading Toyota Tacoma but is higher than that for competitors like the Chevrolet Colorado, Nissan Frontier and GMC Canyon.
Pricing will start at $24,300 for the least expensive version, a 2019 Ford Ranger SuperCab XL extended cab with rear-wheel-drive and a 6-foot bed. The figure does not include a $1,095 destination charge.
2019 Ford Rangers are expected to begin arriving in dealerships before the end of this year. With pricing announced, Ford dealers can officially begin taking orders for the new truck Tuesday.
Toyota has not released 2019 Tacoma pricing. The least expensive 2018 Tacoma model, an SR extended cab, has a starting price of $25,400 before a $1,045 destination charge.
The least expensive 2019 Chevrolet Colorado, also an extended cab, has a starting price of $21,495 including a $995 destination charge.
Nissan has yet to announce 2019 model-year pricing for its Frontier mid-size pickup. For 2018 it is the lowest-priced new truck available in the U.S. with a starting price of $18,890 for its base extended cab model before $975 for destination.
The most expensive 2019 Ford Ranger will be a Lariat SuperCrew crew cab model with a 5-foot bed. It is priced at $38,385 plus the $1,095 destination charge. The most expensive 2018 Toyota Tacoma model is the TRD Pro crew cab 4×4 with a starting price of $41,620 with an additional $1,045 for destination.
The Ranger’s base engine will be a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Competitive trucks normally use naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engines as their base powerplants. None use a 10-speed automatic.
