AMP Electric’s Workhorse Wants to Be “Tesla of Trucks” for Electric Delivery Vans

February 25, 2015 by Kate Halse

AMP Electric’s Workhorse is partnering with UPS in an effort to produce electric delivery trucks. The project, which was chosen by the U.S. Department of Energy for funding, is geared towards improving air quality in the Houston-Galveston area. UPS will purchase and test 18 trucks from AMP.

Aside from a predicted driving range of approximately 60 miles, the walk-in vans will be much quieter — and ride more smoothly — than the diesel-powered trucks they are set to replace. Another benefit is lower maintenance costs, as the batteries supplied by AMP Electric will be under warranty for at least eight years.
