Ford Motor Co. unveiled a new version of its F-150 Raptor SuperCrew off-road performance pickup truck at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit Monday.
The truck is built on the same weight-saving aluminum architecture introduced with the current version of its F-series trucks in the 2015 model year.
Ford sold more than 780,000 F-series trucks last year, making it the best selling vehicle in America.
The new Raptor features a new high-output 3.5-liter turbocharged engine and a new 10-speed transmission. Ford didn’t provide engine data for the new model but said the power plant will produce more power with greater efficiency than the current 6.2-liter V8, which is rated at 411 horsepower and 434 lb.-ft. of torque.
The new truck also is lighter. Ford is using high-strength steel and aluminum alloy to shave 500 pounds from the prior Raptor.
