Mercedes-Benz unveiled a new, lower priced version of its Sprinter commercial van at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show Thursday.

Called the Sprinter Worker, the van will have a sticker price of $32,495 and is aimed at general contractors, plumbers, electricians and heating and air conditioning firms.

The Worker offers “simple and straightforward packaging” for the commercial van market, said Bernie Glaser, Vice President of Mercedes-Benz Vans, USA.

A four-cylinder, 2.1-liter diesel engine that delivers 161 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque powers the new Sprinter. It is mated to a 7-speed transmission.

The van can carry as much as 660 pounds on the roof, offers a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds and a maximum payload of 3,512 pounds. The vehicle includes an electronic stability system that adapts to the weight of the cargo load. The van also offers a crosswind assist that helps prevent the Worker from drifting across lanes in high winds.

Mercedes is taking orders for the model now. The first deliveries are expected to arrive at dealership in the spring.
