Daimler Recalls Western Star, Freightliner Trucks for Fuel Line Issue

September 26, 2018 by Jack Nerad

Daimler Trucks North America is recalling 4,500 2017-19 trucks equipped with Cummins ISX15 or X15 diesel engines to fix a potential fuel line failure.

In certain driving conditions, such as on a long down-hill grade, the fuel line may burst if the fuel pump cooling circuit screen becomes clogged or restricted. The resulting leak can cause a roadway hazard for other motorists. The engine may also stall without warning and might not restart, increasing the risk of a crash.

Certain Western Star 4900, Freightliner Cascadia, Freightliner Coronado and Freightliner 122SD trucks are affected by the recall.

Cummins will take charge of notifying the affected owners of the potential problem. The remedy for this recall is still under development.

Owners of the trucks may contact Daimler customer service at 800 547-0712 or Cummins customer service at 800 286-6467. Daimler’s number for this recall is FL789.

The recall is expected to begin Oct. 28.
