5 Things to Know About 2019 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition

March 04, 2019 by Ryan ZumMallen, @Zoomy575M

Nissan will offer an upgraded version of its 2019 Pathfinder three-row crossover called the Rock Creek Edition beginning in the spring. The package is aimed at adventurous buyers looking for more equipment than is found on a standard Pathfinder.

The Pathfinder debuted as a rugged body-on-frame SUV. In 1996 the second-generation model switched to a car-like unibody chassis. The Rock Creek is not a true return to the vehicle’s sturdy roots. However, it does have an assortment of off-road features that make the current Pathfinder better suited to the trails.

The 2019 Pathfinder Rock Creek debuted at the Chicago Auto Show. Here are five things to know about the new SUV:

Wider Rubber

The all-season tires on the 2019 Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition are unique to the trim. At 255 millimeters, they are wider than the standard tires offered on other Pathfinder versions and offer good ride quality and traction. But they are not off-road specialists. The Rock Creek tires have a smaller side wall than those on a standard Pathfinder. An all-terrain tire would be more appropriate for adventure and add a gutsier look to the SUV.

Standard Rails and Tow Hitch

The 2019 Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition includes some equipment that many owners would otherwise add as accessories. Every Rock Creek comes standard with raised roof rails and crossbars, allowing owners to easily mount gear such as bike racks, cargo carriers and rooftop tents. A Class III tow hitch is also standard and gives the Rock Creek a maximum towing capacity of 6,000 pounds. The hitch is optional on other Pathfinder models.

Black fenders and accents

The standard Pathfinder design has plain, body-color wheel wells that make the model look bare. The Rock Creek Edition fixes that problem with black plastic fenders for a more complete aesthetic. Dark accents can be found throughout the Rock Creek Edition. The 18-inch wheels, mesh grille, roof rails, door handles, mirrors and badges are also finished in black.

Unique interior

The current-generation Pathfinder debuted in 2013 and could use an upgrade. The Rock Creek Edition brings some needed changes to the crossover with interior touches that separate it from standard models. Rock Creek variants include two-tone seats and contrast stitching. Metallic trim and an adventurous logo stitched into the seats bring panache to the aging SUV.

Splash protection

The 2019 Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition has seven exterior colors from which to choose. Buyers will be able to keep those colors shining thanks to standard splash guards behind each wheel. These are not quite mud flaps – they are plastic shields that help the Pathfinder stay slightly cleaner if drivers venture through water and mud. Along with the other equipment they complete the Rock Creek look and add another value layer to the $995 equipment package.
