Daimler AG is recalling 2019 Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter vans because malfunctioning high-beam headlights can blind oncoming drivers.
The glare-causing lights deactivate when switched to manual control. They also deactivate when they are turned off or the engine is restarted. The high-beam lever doesn’t work because a software error causes a camera malfunction. A light on the instrument cluster alerts drivers of the issue.
Daimler said it knows of no customer complaints related to the condition, which affects 1,517 Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner 2500 and 3500 models. Daimler made a production fix in February.
Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner dealers will reprogram software to fix the high beams at no charge. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall number is 19V-309.
