This position is the lead writer for Trucks.com commercial vehicle coverage. Topics covered on this beat include, but are not limited to, business and economics as it applies to the freight and logistics industry; technology such as autonomous driving and electric vehicles; and the introduction of new commercial vehicles ranging from small cargo vans to large Class 8 trucks. Regulatory and labor issues also are a major component of the beat. Candidates must be self-starters, able to work productively on their own.

Requirements:

  • Strong writing and research skills.
  • Ability to work remotely on assignment and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a digital only format, learning how to upload articles and photos into a content management system.

The primary responsibility is to build out a series of “Quick Facts” overviews of new and existing pickup trucks, SUVs and crossovers. The writer also will be responsible for writing vehicle specification summaries. Additionally, the writer will compose occasional news stories, including new product announcements.

Requirements:

  • Strong writing and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work remotely on assignment and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to report and write complex stories over the course of a single work day.
  • Ability to take photos for publication on a smart phone.
  • Help conceptualize photos and graphics.
  • Videography skills are desired.
  • Willingness to take on occasional assignments on other Trucks.com beats as needed.
